Long bio
David Chuan-En Lin is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI, working with Sean Follmer and Hari Subramonyam. He received his Ph.D. from the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, working with Nikolas Martelaro. His research designs interactive systems and models that make generative AI steerable, turning a model's internal representations into controls people can see, explore, and directly manipulate. He studies this through the lens of design and creativity, where goals are often ill-defined, take shape through exploration, and are hard to put into words. He publishes in premier computer science venues such as CHI, UIST, and CVPR, and received a CHI Best Paper Honorable Mention with collaborators.
